Anti-Wrinkle Injection Treatments

What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

This treatment is the most popular nonsurgical anti-ageing treatment available and has been around since the 1970s in medicine and in use for cosmetic purpose for the past 30 years. They are tiny, superficial injections that block specific chemical signals from the facial nerves that cause facial muscles to contract, causing wrinkles.

Dr Sung is well-trained in this cosmetic treatment which has been the subject of many scientific studies over the years.  These injections use tiny needles, require only small amounts of the drugs involved and is approved for use correctly and in small doses for many different aesthetic concerns.

How Anti-Wrinkle Injections work

The most common use of these injections is to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes. This is achieved by placement of these drugs into targeted areas of facial muscles to stop the nerves communication with the muscle, stopping the muscle from contracting and creating the wrinkle.

When correctly placed in the skin Anti-Wrinkle Injections temporarily prevent the communication between nerves and muscle. So these treatments actually ‘freeze’ or paralyse muscles, but stop the muscle receiving instruction to activate for a period of 3-6 months.

There are a number of approved drugs available in Australia for this treatment and when they have slowly metabolised, or ‘worn off’, the nerves begin communication with the muscle again, and the wrinkle will go back to pre-treated condition.

Why we use Anti-Wrinkle Injections

We use Anti-Wrinkle Injections to treat two types of wrinkles: static and dynamic

Static wrinkles are those that are deep wrinkles which appear permanently in the skin after many years of smiling, frowning and raising the eyebrows.

Dynamic wrinkles are visible only when making a facial expression. So these lines appear and disappear with movement.
