What are Dermal Filler Injections?
Dermal fillers were first used in cosmetics in the 1970s when animal collagen extracts that had been sufficiently researched and tested to use in humans were made available to cometic doctors. ‘Collagen’ injections and implants were available for anti-ageing and facial enhancement and made popular by celebrity patients. Bovine collagen, or collagen derived from cows, was an early and very popular dermal filler which is no longer available in our market.
The most commonly used dermal fillers are made from a complex sugar, found in the body and in high concentrations in young people and diminishes as we age. It causes skin to be plump and is also found in fluids in the eyes and joints. Today dermal fillers are made in laboratories under strict, sterile conditions. There are a number of brands available through different pharmaceutical companies and each has its own characteristics. Some last up to 6 months and more. Why aren’t we mentioning the names of these dermal fillers? Because, whilst the brands Dr Sung uses are all approved for use by our local government, we are not permitted the use the names of these drugs.
Dr Sung is well-trained in the use of this extremely popular cosmetic treatment. These cosmetic injections use thin needles, and we have a range of options to make treatment more comfortable. for many different aesthetic concerns.
How Dermal Filler Injections work
The most common use of dermal FIller injections is fill lines and wrinkles that have been caused over time by muscle movement in the face. Where lines and wrinkles have been created in the forehead, around the eyes and mouth, for example, we can soften the muscle movement with anti-wrinkle injections before fill lines with dermal filler to soften and smooth the skin surface. This objective is usually achieved with superficial injecting.
For enhancement of the lips or correction of lip asymmetry, we use a less dense product and a superficial injection but usually without the need for anti-wrinkle injections before this treatment.
We can also create volume using a thicker form of Dermal filler in the cheek, chin and jaw, to create better facial contours and replace lost skin volume. This is usually a deeper injecting technique and we use a denser filler product to achieve a good result.
Why we use Dermal Filler Injections
We use Dermal Filler Injections to treat lines and wrinkles, and to create volume in the skin.
Deep wrinkles and those that appear as permanently lines in the skin after many years of smiling, frowning and raising the eyebrows, and be ‘filled’ with the dermal filler and most often used in conjunction with Anti-Wrinkle injections to stop the cause – that is temporarily stop the muscle from creasing the skin.
We also use Dermal Fillers to create, or re-create, volume in the skin. One of the most popular treatments is to enhance the lips with more volume, better shape or increased symmetry.
The areas around the eyes including the ‘shadows’ in the tear trough are also commonly treated. We can use Dermal Filler to soften crow’s feet and create a brow lift – often used in conjunction with Anti Wrinkle injections.
A Mid Face Lift or Dermal Filler in the cheek area creates volume and can rebalance an ageing face or create an attractive, contoured cheek bone. Similarly with the jaw line, Dermal Fillers can fill skin laxity and recreate a youthful jaw contour without surgery.
