What are SkinPen Micro-needling Treatments? Micro-needling with SkinPen is a very popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment that involves the delivery of micro injuries to the skin in a very controlled manner. Like mesotherapy, which we offer in the R Clinic, the treatment uses tiny, thin and short needles to penetrate the skin to generate increased collagen and elastin production. In a micro-needling treatment, however, we don’t introduce any active ingredient into the skin. The purpose of SkinPen Miciro-needling is to make tiny wounds in the superficial skin to stimulate injury which elicit a healing response. This healing response produces more collagen which is the goal of skin rejuvenation to target lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores and acne scarring. For patients who use a skin roller at home, the SkinPen Micro-needling treatment is different as the SkinPen needles penetrate the skin straight down with minimum damage to the skin surface, where the roller enters the skin at an angle and leaves at an angle for more surface damage, and is less effective when treating around the nose and eyes. How SkinPen Micro-Needling Treatments work The treated skin will experience a natural healing boost in response to the controlled injury of the micro-needles. This stimulates increased collagen production which can improve open pores or coarse skin texture, lines and wrinkles, scars and mild pigmentation. So we can anticipate increased skin firmness, improvement to any scars or irregularities, more even skin texture and colour, and a glow to the complexion. Treatment is quick and painless, can easily be combined with other cosmetic treatments in a skincare routine, should be taken as a course of 6 to 12, and is recommended for all skin types. Why we use SkinPen Micro-Needling Treatment A topical anaesthetic can be applied before treatment, so the treatment is very comfortable and quite fast – usually under an hour. SkinPen Micro-needling is easily combined in a patient’s usual skincare routine, and, as a number of treatments will be required for best results, patients usually commit to a regular or a course of treatments: usually 6 to 12. The downtime is dependent on the intensity of the treatment. For general skin  rejuvenation, patients can expect little or no downtime. Where we use Mesotherapy treatments: We use this treatment to improve the appearance of skin to:
  • Soften and reduce wrinkles and lines
  • Firm and tighten loose skin
  • Lift and recontour the skin
  • Treat and lighten pigmented skin
