Reduce the signs of aging and soften fine lines and wrinkles at the R Clinic. Your personalised anti-wrinkle treatment is performed by our experienced doctors and practitioners.

Overview

As we age and frequently express emotions through our faces, these movements can leave lasting impressions on our skin. At the R Clinic, we are dedicated to nurturing and enhancing each person’s natural beauty. We offer anti-wrinkle treatments designed to smooth facial areas, providing a refreshed, natural look without restricting facial movement.

How it works

Wrinkles naturally develop as part of the aging process due to the skin becoming thinner, drier, and losing elasticity. This makes the skin less capable of defending itself, leading to the appearance of lines and creases. Continuous muscle contractions from everyday facial expressions also contribute to wrinkle formation. These ‘dynamic wrinkles’ appear with muscle movement, but over time, repetitive movements create deeper, more permanent ‘static wrinkles’. Anti-wrinkle treatments are effective in preventing static wrinkles and diminishing existing fine lines.

These treatments are most effective as a preventive measure, helping to soften and smooth lines and wrinkles. Results may vary, so an initial consultation is necessary to review any health conditions or medical history, ensuring the treatment plan is safe and effective for your individual needs.

Why we use Anti-wrinkle Treatments?

Our approach involves a personalised treatment plan that utilises anti-wrinkle treatments to achieve a youthful, revitalised appearance. Our experienced cosmetic practitioners ensure that treatments are tailored to each individual, achieving natural looking results.

At the R Clinic, the most common areas treated include-

  • Crows feet
  • Forehead and frown lines
  • Eyebrow lift

Anti-wrinkle treatments can also be used to address other concerns, such as –

  • Chin dimpling and wrinkling
  • Facial slimming
  • Teeth grinding (Bruxism)
  • Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
  • Gummy smile

Expected result

Anti-wrinkle treatments work by temporarily interrupting the communication between nerve endings and facial muscles, reducing the activity of muscles that create facial lines. This process relaxes and lifts the tissue, softening the appearance of lines and resulting in a subtly tighter and smoother look. Over time, these treatments help to ease muscle movement and diminish facial lines. In some instances, frequent frowning can be significantly reduced or eliminated.

Depending upon the number of areas being treated, the treatment usually takes about 10-20 minutes and is performed after a comprehensive consultation with our doctor where an indivdualised treatment plan will e created for your needs.

Clients can expect minimal to no down time with results duration of 3 – 6 months.

  • Treatment Time – 20 Mins
  • Discomfort – Minimal
  • Recovery – 4 Hours

Preparation & Aftercare

Preparation

We recommend avoiding smoking and large intakes of alcohol for 24 hours as this increases the risk of bruising. Inform our cosmetic practitioner about any medications or supplements you are taking, as some can have adverse effects if combined with anti-wrinkle treatments. You may be asked to temporarily stop using certain topical products in the days leading up to and the days following your appointment.

During procedure

Attend your appointment with little to no makeup on your face. We will remove any remaining makeup when you arrive at your appointment. This is highly important as it allows us to properly assess your face, as well as decreasing the risk of infection at treatment sites.

Anti-wrinkle treatments feel like a slight pinch or sting. Most patients do not require topical or local anesthetic for pain relief. Ice and vibration are usually sufficient to minimise discomfort.

Aftercare

Here’s what not to do after treatment – we recommend the following precautions to allow the anti-wrinkle treatment to work optimally in the targeted muscles:

  • No rubbing or massaging of the treated area for 4 hours after treatment, including facials.
  • Keep upright for 4 hours.
  • Avoid any heat-inducing activities for 24 hours such as strenuous exercise, spas, sauna, and hot showers.
  • Avoid pressure on the area for the first 24 hours (sleep on your back if possible, no face-down massages).
  • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption for the first 24 hours.

What Is the Difference Between Anti-Wrinkle Treatments and Gel Treatments?

Anti-wrinkle treatments and gel treatments are both injectable treatments that minimize the appearance of facial wrinkles. Both are effective options for the right patient, but they address slightly different concerns and have different mechanisms of action.

Anti-wrinkle treatments are also known as neuromodulators. They work by temporarily stopping the normal motion of muscles into which they are administered. This treatment relaxes wrinkles that are the result of muscles repeatedly contracting in the same location.

Gel treatments work by literally filling in the area underneath the skin. This approach is useful for treating wrinkles that appear due to age-related fat loss and the deterioration of collagen and elastin. By replacing lost volume and filling lines, gel treatments temporarily restore youthful fullness to the face.

What should I start anti-wrinkle treatments?

There is no single age that applies to all patients. The best time to begin anti-wrinkle treatments will depend on your specific goals and circumstances. For some patients, that means starting in the 30s when lines are visible even when the face is at rest. For patients who are more at risk of developing wrinkles due to genetic factors or lifestyle, that may mean beginning preventative treatments at an earlier age, before lines become deeply ingrained. Anti-wrinkle treatments can be considered at any age when lines are taking a toll on your confidence.

How Soon Can I Resume Normal Activities?

Anti-wrinkle treatments offer a quick and safe procedure with minimal impact on your normal activities during the day of treatment. You may resume normal daily activities immediately following treatment. However, you should wait at least 4 hours before performing light exercises such as walking, jogging, or upright yoga. Strenuous workouts such as weight training, cross-training, and long-distance running are best to avoid for the first 24 hours.

How Long Do Anti-Wrinkle Treatments Last?

Anti-wrinkle treatments last three to four months on average. The expected duration of results is dependent on several factors including the dosage administered, the skin’s condition, and the degree of muscular use in the treatment area. When the treatment wears off, the muscle simply regains its prior strength and normal movement. The lines and wrinkles also gradually return. After repeated treatments, some patients notice that the muscle’s strength naturally diminishes from being kept in a state of relaxation. This is a desirable effect that can lead to longer breaks between treatment sessions and reduced costs.

Can Anti-Wrinkle Treatments Be Reversed?

Anti-wrinkle treatments cannot be reversed. This is an important distinction between neuromodulators and gel treatments. The effects of anti-wrinkle treatments must wear off naturally. Gel treatments can be dissolved rapidly by administering a reversal agent if the treatment produces an unsatisfactory aesthetic result or complications.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Minor side effects post anti-wrinkle treatment include temporary localised inflammation, including redness, swelling, heat, and small lumps at the treatment site. These symptoms are very normal and will usually subside within a couple of days. There is also the potential for minor bruising at the treatment site, which is usually easily concealed with makeup.
